The long awaited ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the Farmington Heritage Canal Greenway bridge over Route 6 in Farmington was held on May 16, 2018.

With the opening of the bridge, the Farmington Heritage Canal Greenway now connects Robertson Airport in Plainville to the Farmington Rail Trail system. It is now possible to travel off road, by bicycle, from Plainville through Farmington and into Collinsville and beyond via the River Trail, or continuing along the Heritage Canal Trail all the way into Massachusetts.

Many Farmington residents, including former Town Council member and Bicycle Advisory Committee Chair John Vibert, worked very hard for many years for the bridge and the trail to come to fruition.

Among those at the ribbon cutting ceremony supporting the Farmington Heritage Canal Greenway, were current Town Council members Ed Giannaros, Bruce Charette, Beth Kintner and Patti Boye-Williams.

Thanks goes to everyone involved with the project, the Farmington Heritage Canal Greenway and the new bridge represents a tremendous asset to the town of Farmington and our residents!
